EMERGENCY SNOW LEVELS
Once again winter travel advisories will be forthcoming from this office. As a part of your safety, Wayne County Sheriff Travis Hutchinson wishes to inform you of the different levels of winter warnings you may hear periodically.
The county sheriff, pursuant to Ohio Revised Code, may declare a snow emergency and temporarily close state routes and municipal streets within his jurisdiction when action is reasonably necessary for the prevention of the public peace. These are as follows:
Initially, we want all travelers to be aware of their surroundings and the weather they are facing when driving. Updated information is provided to local media, including WQKT radio 104.5 FM and Clear Picture Cable channel 9.
LEVEL 1 ALERT
Roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Roads are also icy. Drive very cautiously.
LEVEL 2 ALERT
Roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Only those who feel it is necessary to drive should be out on the roadways. Contact your employer to see if you should report to work.
LEVEL 3 ALERT
ALL roadways are closed to non-emergency personnel. No one should be out during these conditions unless is is absolutely necessary to travel. All employees should contact their employer to see if they should report to work. Those traveling may subject themselves to arrest under 2917.13 of the Ohio Revised Code. This offense is a misdemeanor of the fourth degree.
On behalf of the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office we thank you for your understanding our needs to keep you informed and safe.
